Ashlee Simpson-Wentz is moving into "Melrose Place," returning to series television seven years after landing her breakthrough role on the WB's "7th Heaven."

In the "Melrose" update, the singer-actress will play a bright-eyed but shrewd small-town girl and recent L.A. transplant who has come to town with a secret.

Her character draws parallels to the original series' blond, budding-Southern-belle starlet, Sandy Harling (Amy Locane).

Simpson-Wentz, who joins the previously cast Michael Rady and Katie Cassidy, took a four-year hiatus from acting to focus on her music career. She and her rocker husband Pete Wentz guest-star on the March 18 episode of "CSI: NY," in which they play Bonnie-and-Clyde wannabes.

"Dancing With the Stars" judge Carrie Ann Inaba reports she had a blast stepping out of her comfort zone to indulge in a little broad comedy of the "Hannah Montana" kind on this Sunday's (3/8) segment of the Miley Cyrus Disney Channel series. "Oh, my gosh. I want to be that dumb all the time," laughs Carrie Ann, who'll be seen as Hannah's hapless choreographer -- who winds up in a full body cast before the episode is through."

It was so much fun. We laughed so hard. They have a wonderful group of people working on that show."  She's also trying something new next month -- when she'll be a guest on the panel at the 2009 amateur ballroom championships to be conducted April 3-5 in Baltimore, Md., by USA Dance. "Ballroom is not the world I grew up dancing in, and to be welcomed into this event is such an honor and very exciting for me," says Carrie Ann, whose credits range from dancing as part of Madonna's "Girlie Show Tour" to TV choreography. "They're actually working on opening up and changing some of the ways it's been judged in the past, so it will be interesting."

ON A PERSONAL NOTE: Jeff Conaway tells us he's had his friend and former co-star John Travolta on his mind since the passing of Travolta's son, Jett. "We've been friends a very long time. It really depressed me when this happened. I felt like I lost a member of my family. It was so heartbreaking, and I know how much John loved Jett," he says. "I think of him every day, and I send a prayer his way. When we get a chance, we'll get together and give each other a hug."

Katy Perry says winning a BRIT Award is like "being knighted".

The US singer - who picked up the Best International Female accolade at London's Earl's Court on Wednesday night (18.02.09) - is still thrilled by her victory and can't think of a better honour.

The 24-year-old singer revealed she was ill during her acceptance speech. Upon collecting her statuette from Lionel Richie, she said "Holy st! I'm so sick right now, but they said come along something good might happen."

Shortly leaving the stage, the 'Hot N' Cold' singer was violently sick and is now recovering in bed.

She wrote "I can't tell you how bad I feel right now. Last night I was sweatin it out, but yeah, lets just say this kitty does not look so pretty right now. I have the doctor on speed dial if the fever gets over 101102. I thought I was invincible and then my body decides to show me otherwise. I'm stuck in bed for the next couple of days as I should be. Im upset because Top Shop is right around the corner and I can't move outta my sweat bed. Fing flu.

Pop three is all awash with Rihanna, and Lil Kim and other Dancing with the Stars news as the cast was announced on ABC on Monday night.  Rihanna is the woman known in the police report as Robyn Fenty and accusations and speculation continue.  According to a Celebrity justice report from Chris Brown and Rihanna central, TMZ.Com says the singer looked like an MMA fighter, according to a cop on the scene.

A TMZ report cites a police officer ont the scene that describes a pretty beat up sounding Rihanna including big contusions and bloods.  Law enforcement sources tell TMZ Rihanna's injuries were severe -- two "huge contusions" which swelled up on both sides of her forehead. We're told she also suffered "a bloody lip and nose."  More at TMZ
