The actress is believed to have been dating Hollywood agent Jim Toth since February, but rather than take things slowly Jim, 39 is ready to propose.

An ex-girlfriend of Jim's told America's InTouch Weekly magazine: "He is not looking to casually date, he's looking to get more serious. He's a nice guy, but he can be needy and is definitely looking to settle down. He lost his father about a year ago and that made him want to get married."

However, Reese is happy with their current situation and has no plans to tie the knot in the near future.

Hollywood darling Reese Witherspoon, whose three-year relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal ended in December, was pictured smiling as she got into a car with Hollywood agent Jim Toth, reports the Arizona Republic.  People Magazine reports the pair shared an intimate dinner Wednesday night at the low-key Pace restaurant in L.A.'s Laurel Canyon.

Reese Witherspoon has been spotted in public with her rumoured new boyfriend.

The actress - whose three-year relationship with actor Jake Gyllenhaal ended in December - was pictured smiling as she got into a car with Hollywood agent Jim Toth last night (24.02.10), but promptly covered her face as she realised they had been spotted by photographers.

The 33-year-old star - who has children Ava, ten, and six-year-old Deacon with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe - was seen out two weeks ago with Jim at Locanda Portofino restaurant in Los Angeles, but are believed to have been on "at least ten" low-key dates prior to their public outing.

Onlookers said the pair were "very flirtatious" and "very happy" during the meal.

A source said: "They were very flirtatious throughout dinner. They were having a lot of fun, totally getting along and laughing and talking the whole dinner. Reese seemed very happy. The mood was upbeat and really good.

About a month ago we reported that Robert Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon would be starring in Water For Elephants, Francis Lawrence's adaptation of Sarah Gruen's bestselling novel. At the time, Sean Penn was said to be circling the project; interested in the role of Witherspoon's gnarly husband, the animal trainer August. But thrice nay. It now transpires, courtesy of Deadline Hollywood, that the role has gone to Inglourious Basterds' Christoph Waltz.

/Film seem to think this means that Penn will now take the role of circus ringmaster uncle Al, but DH imply that Penn is no longer on board at all. Whatever, it's good news for Waltz, picking up his second post-Basterds Hollywood role, following dastardly gang lord Chudnofsky in Green Hornet. Another villain though. Let's hope he'll find a way to avoid getting typecast.

Water For Elephants is a love triangle set in a depression-era American circus. Pattinson plays Jacob, a recently orphaned vet who takes up with the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth, and falls in love with the circus life, Rosie the elephant, and Witherspoons' Marlena, risking the wrath of August. 

Shooting is scheduled for later this year, before Pattinson starts Breaking Dawn and Lawrence gets going on Sgt. Rock.

A source said: "They've been on at least 10 dates. They've been to each other's houses and out to dinner together. Jim is trying to keep it quiet, but he and Reese are together, he's told friends."

Although Jim is yet to meet Reese's children with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe - Ava, ten, and six-year-old Deacon - insiders insist the romance is getting serious.

The source added to Life and Style magazine: "They've been acting like a couple, they've even double-dated. You don't go out with another couple unless you're dating. They spend several nights a week together."

When it comes to projects that have been lingering in development for years, the mere chance that a hot performer might take it on is enough for studios to dig it out of the vaults, dust it off and throw it back on to the fast track. So it is with the adaptation of Janet Evanovich’s comedy thriller novel One For The Money, which now comes bearing Katherine Heigl’s name attached.

According to Variety, Evanovich’s first book to feature jobless lingerie buyer turned bounty hunter Stephanie Plum has been in development for ages, almost since it became a hit back in 1994 and for a while looked like it might hit the screen with Reese Witherspoon as Plum. But when it didn’t come together, it vanished beneath the Hollywood murk once again.

Now, however Columbia Pictures and Lakeshore Entertainment want to try again with their Ugly Truth star as Stephanie, re-writing the script for her and starting to track down a director.

They’ve got to be thinking franchise: since Money did so well, Evanovich has written several more novels featuring increasingly strained numerical puns (Finger Lickin’ Fifteen was the last one and there’s apparently another on the way).

Katherine Heigl as a blundering bounty hunter? Not sure we see it, but if she can help drive The Ugly Truth to box office success, surely this is within her reach.

Robert Pattinson is in talks to run away with the circus, joining the already-attached Reese Witherspoon on Water For Elephants, Francis Lawrence's adaptation of Sarah Gruen's novel. According to Deadline Hollywood, Sean Penn is also circling the project.

The story, set during the American Depression, is about the recently orphaned Jacob, who takes up with the misfits and freaks at the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show On Earth as a vet, falling in love with the married star-of-the-show Marlena (Witherspoon), and with Rosie the elephant. The latter relationship is purely platonic.

Trouble is, Marlane is married to the nutcase animal trainer August: reportedly the role that Penn is interested in.

The plan is to get this in front of the cameras before Pattinson rubs on the sparkle again for Breaking Dawn. Penn is attached to The Three Stooges, but that won't go ahead until MGM's problems are resolved. And Francis Lawrence aparently always planned to make this before he moved onto Sgt Rock. It looks like the fates are aligning.

The novel is bookended with scenes of a much older Jacob relating the events from his nursing home, so we could be looking at some Benjamin Button style ageing of Pattinson. He's used to playing 108, so 90 should be a doddle, surely?

She said: "Sometimes it's really difficult for me, being far away from home.

"Los Angeles is where my job is and I have to be close, but I never imagined that my children wouldn't grow up next door to my brother's children. Or that my mom and dad wouldn't constantly be around.

"You know, I had dinner every night with my grandparents as a kid, so I think missing out on that is a hard compromise."

The 33-year-old Hollywood star has to work "incredibly hard" for three months and then make the most of her long breaks with her kids - whose father is ex-husband Ryan Phillippe.

Jake Gyllenhaal was left broken hearted when Reese Witherspoon ended their relationship.

The 'Brokeback Mountain' actor was devastated when the Oscar-winning actress called time on their two-year romance as he was keen for the pair to get married.

A source said: "It broke his heart. She felt pressured to wed again but she wasn't ready. She couldn't give Jake enough and she got cold feet. Jake wanted all of her."

Reese - who has two children, Ava, 10, and six-year-old Deacon, with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe - is also said to have had doubts over Jake's suitability as a stepfather.

A source told Us Weekly magazine: "She really worried that they didn't have enough in common. When she was giving all of her energy to Jake, she felt like she wasn't giving her kids enough.
