Katie Holmes has replaced Liv Tyler as the lead in the indie rom-com, The Romantics.

Holmes will play Laura, the maid of honour at the wedding of her best friend, Lila (Anna Paquin). Only problem is, Laura has got previous with the groom (Josh Duhamel).

Malin Akerman, Elijah Wood, Jeremy Strong and Adam Brody complete an impressive cast of bright young things. Galt Neiderhoffer will direct, having adapted the screenplay from her own novel.

Holmes’ arrival on the movie, which starts filming this week in New York, is a further signal that her film career is go again, following her leading role in the Guillermo del Toro-produced horror, Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark. Both that, and The Romantics, should come out next year.

 

Taking her new romantic comedy into Western Europe, Kristen Bell was spotted at the premiere of “Couples Retreat” (it’s being called All Inclusive over there) today (October 13).

The “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” hottie looked to be having a great time in the German city of Hamburg, smiling and posing for the paparazzi.

And joining Miss Bell were her costars Malin Akerman, Vince Vaughn, and Jason Bateman, all of whom have been traveling together all over the globe during the promotional trail.

While audiences in the States have been enjoying the flick since last Friday, German fans will have to wait until November 5th when “All Inclusive” opens over there.

Looking happy to be out on a Friday night, Malin Akerman enjoyed dinner at Katsuya restaurant in Los Angeles, CA last night (October 9).

The “Couples Retreat” beauty showed off her gorgeous smile while donning an all black outfit with a darling tan leather coat to boot. She happily talked with the paparazzi and posed for pictures with her sister and friend after their meal.

In related news, Malin’s new movie, “Couples Retreat” hit theatres yesterday (October 9) in which she stars alongside funnyman, Vince Vaughn.

Of working with Vince, Akerman said, “Vince is hilarious. The things he comes up with? I don’t know how his brain works.”

Stepping out to fulfill some promotional duties, Kristen Bell made an appearance on “The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien” last night (October 6).

The “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” actress looked lovely in a strapless frilly black dress with matching peep-toe heels as she chatted with the crimson-haired talk show host.

Kristen has been working overtime promoting her upcoming movie “Couples Retreat” all over the globe, from Australia to the United States.

Stepping out for a high-profile evening, Malin Akerman was spotted at the big Hollywood premiere of her new film “Couples Retreat” last night (October 5).

The “Heartbreak Kid” actress was the center of attention as she made her way into the Mann Village Theatre, sporting a muted yellow and pink ensemble with grey heels.

Akerman’s costar Vince Vaughn told press that he was agreeable with baring a little skin for his female castmates. "We know what the kids like. If me and the guys are going to show some skin around, we know the ladies are going to show up. That's what we do."

And Malin concurred, saying, "That's how they lure us in. 'Hey, ladies, we are getting naked today,' and we say, 'We are gonna be there!'"

She’s no stranger to swanky industry events, and last night (August 5) Malin Akerman was spotted at the Supperclub and Instyle Dinner Party.

The “Watchmen” hottie was looking fit and fine as she posed for the paparazzi in a merlot-colored halter-style dress teamed with a pair of ivory-colored strappy heels.

Ms. Ackerman has been working hard on a new flick called “HappyThankYouMorePlease,” a film in which she has to shave her eyebrows. And her husband apparently didn’t dig the new look.

Malin told press, "I wear a bald cap for the role, too. I sent the picture to my husband and he was like, 'E.T. - come home!'"

Transformers beauty Megan Fox has been beaten to the top of Maxim's Hot 100 List – by the very actress she admits having a huge crush on. House star Olivia Wilde has been named the sexiest woman on the planet by the magazine, and it comes just days after Fox, who was second, said she could see herself in a relationship with a girl.

Fox then added, "Olivia Wilde is so sexy she makes me want to strangle a mountain ox with my bare hands. She’s mesmerizing.” Wilde told Maxim: “I'm considered sexy even though I'm wearing a lab coat every day and seen as a doctor on TV. That really says something. Playing someone who is not defined by her looks and being considered hot, that really makes me feel good."

U.S. television actress Olivia Wilde tops Maxim magazine's "2009 Hot 100" list of the world's most beautiful women.

Coming in at No. 2 is Megan Fox, followed by Bar Refaeli at No. 3, Malin Akerman at No. 4 and Mila Kunis at No. 5.

Rounding out the top tier are Eliza Dushku at No. 6, Adriana Lima at No. 7, Rihanna at No. 8, Jordana Brewster at No. 9 and Jennifer Love Hewitt at No. 10.

Usmagazine.com noted this year was the first time a U.S. president's wife has made the list.

Maxim ranked Michelle Obama at No. 93, stating: "(President Barack Obama) may be dealing with two wars, an economic meltdown, and a rapidly graying dome, but at least our Commander-in-Chief gets to come home to the hottest first lady in the history of these United States."
