Adam Brody, Marley Shelton and Erik Knudsen have joined the cast of "Scream 4," which began shooting this week in Michigan.
The film reunites director Wes Craven with Kevin Williamson, who kicked off a horror movie revival with his "Scream" script in 1996.
Original cast members Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courteney Cox are also returning, though the plan is to pass the baton to a new generation of slasher victims, namely Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere, Rory Culkin and Nico Tortorella.
Brody will play a cop recently graduated from college who was raised on the "CSI" TV series.
Shelton will play a deputy who knew Campbell's character in high school. Lake Bell had been in negotiations for the role.
Knudsen will have a role similar to the one played by Jamie Kennedy in the first two installments, a character who is familiar with horror movie conventions and a provider of comic relief.
To preserve the identity of the killer, Craven and Williamson are operating under several layers of secrecy, including not sending the script to agencies. At a table read last week, the actors were told to stop reading at page 75 to prevent even those already cast in the film from knowing the climax.
Brody recently wrapped ensemble indie drama "The Oranges," which also stars Hugh Laurie and Leighton Meester. He stars with Katie Holmes, Anna Paquin and Elijah Wood in "The Romantics," a romantic comedy slated to open this fall.
Shelton was most recently seen in director Sebastian Gutierrez's ensemble comedy "Women in Trouble." Other credits include "Planet Terror" and "Sin City."
Toronto-born Knudsen appears in the August release "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World," Edgar Wright's adaptation of the Bryan Lee O'Malley graphic novel series, as well as "Beastly," a CBS Films fantasy romance.

Leighton Meester's mother is the biggest inspiration in her life.
The 'Gossip Girl' star - who was born in prison and raised by her grandmother while her mother, father and grandfather served a jail term for smuggling marijuana from Jamaica to America - has always had the full backing of her parent, who taught her to stay true to herself.
She explained to Grazia magazine: "My mother Connie inspires me. She's an amazing woman. When I was a kid I wanted to be an actress and she completely backed me. She is her own person, very eccentric, very individual."
The 24-year-old star even had Connie's support when she stopped going to school because she was being bullied.

Taylor Momsen isn't close to her 'Gossip Girl' co-stars.
The 16-year-old actress says she and her castmates - who include Leighton Meester and Chace Crawford - have a good on-set relationship, but do not socialise outside of work hours.
She said: "I'm not really close with my cast. We're all cordial and nice to each other, but we're not really friends outside of the set."
The teenage star, who also sings in band The Pretty Reckless, also revealed she prefers music to acting because it's "personal".
She said: "I've been acting since I was two. I don't dislike it by any means, but it's a job to me. It can never be as personal as music, because you're playing a character and saying someone else's words. Music is who I am."

Did Twilight star Robert Pattinson and Gossip Girl star
Leighton Meester spend the night together? What about Rob's girlfriend
Kristen Stewart? Some fans were heartbroken when the claims hit that the two young stars may have been intimate, leaving Kristen alone.
A report cited a witness that claimed to see the British heartthrob arriving at Meester's New York apartment - and they claim he didn't come out until the next morning.
The report is from In Touch Weekly, and the source claimed: "He ducked out of the building and hopped into a waiting car. He apparently spent the night with Leighton and didn't want anyone to know. She's having a texting romance with him and is so into it. She talks with Rob almost daily."
Pattinson has been linked with Kristen Stewart, his co-star in the teen vampire series, while Meester recently ended her relationship with long-time boyfriend and fellow Gossip Girl cast member Sebastian Stan.
Despite the report, celebrity blogger Just Jared cites a source that claims the overnight stay is not true. "How could Leighton and Robert have been hooking up if they've never even met? Impossible."

Will the real life love battle for Rob Pattinson's heart be between two sexy American actresses? In Touch Weekly has more on what shapes up as a
Leighton Meester vs.
Kristen Stewart battle for the love of Twilight and New Moon star Robert Pattinson.
The magazine claims in an item this week that Rob has shared at least one overnight rendezvous with Gossip Girl's Leighton Meester.
According to a witness cited in the magazine report, "Rob was recently spotted entering Leighton's New York apartment — and he didn't leave until 11 the next morning, an insider tells In Touch."
"He ducked out of the building and hopped into a waiting car. He apparently spent the night with Leighton, and didn't want anyone to know!" the insider says of the star, who even carried an overnight bag during his hasty exit.
The report adds that a "friend of Leighton's confirms the affair, adding that the pair are still in constant contact."
"She's having a texting romance with him, and is so into it. She talks with Rob almost daily," her friend says. Leighton and her former boyfriend (and sometimes co-star) Sebastian Stan reportedly split earlier this month.

Leighton Meester "f**king loves love".
The actress-turned-singer likes nothing more than falling head-over-heels for someone, even though she admits she is a "cautious" partner.
The 23-year-old beauty's recent track with Robin Thicke begins, "Is there somebody who still believes in love?" which, she admits, she does.
She explained: "I love love. I f**king love love. What's weird is that, from a certain point of view, that song could be about someone who's jaded, but it could also be someone who has every hope in the world. I think that I'm a little bit of both. I'm very cautious, but I still throw my heart into it."
However, the 'Gossip Girl' star - who is dating her TV co-star Sebastian Stan - doesn't want anyone to take her song lyrics literally.
She explained to Britain's InStyle magazine: "I would never want anybody to associate my lyrics with how I am at this moment, because I draw from experiences that aren't necessarily current. I love to say I live in the moment, but I have a past."

Gwyneth Paltrow, Troy's Garrett Hedlund, Leighton Meester and Country star Tim McGraw have all signed up for musical drama Love Don't Let Me Down.
Tobey Maguire is producing the movie, which sees a rising young singer/songwriter (Hedlund) becoming involved with fallen Country crooner Paltrow.
But even as they attempt to reignite her career with a tour, romantic complications with her hubby/manager (McGraw) and a beauty queen-turned-warbler (Meester) threaten to bring them all down.
Yes, it sounds like we're in for a lot of tunes about sick cows and how women done their men wrong (and vice versa), but Country music has come on in leaps and bounds over the years, scraping its way into the mainstream.
Shana Feste is the writer/director behind the film, which at least feature the proven pipes of Paltrow and the slightly experienced (as in huge-selling) abilities of McGraw.
No idea when it'll hit these shores, but it starts shooting in - where else? - Nashville this coming January.

Leighton Meester is annoyed unsuitable people keep falling in love with her.
The 'Gossip Girl' actress has revealed her new song - Robin Thicke duet 'Somebody to Love' - is about her struggle to find a boyfriend now that she is famous.
She explained: "It is about what's going on in my life and I think everyone can relate to it. It's about being crazy, busy, young and running round and it is really, really hard to find somebody to love.
"People love you but you don't really love them. It's about that struggle of finding someone."
Last month, Leighton denied rumours she was dating her co-star Chace Crawford.
She insisted the pair were just friends, claiming reports they were spotted kissing were untrue.
Earlier this year, the 23-year-old star, who plays high school queen bee Blair Waldorf in the hit US TV show, admitted her taste in men is similar to that of her alter ego.
She said: "I think guys who are rebels and make their own rules are appealing. I don't want to tame anybody. I want them to be dark and bad.
