Singer Katy Perry (pictured) is just one of the stars who will lend their voices for a new movie based on the Smurfs, according to US reports. The pop princess is reportedly negotiating a deal to play Smurfette in a movie based on the creatures by cartoonist Pierre Culliford.

The movie, which will be directed by Raja Gosnell, will be partly live-action as well as animation. Perry, who is engaged to British comic Russell Brand, will reportedly be joined by X-Men actor Alan Cumming and How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris in the flick, which is due to be released in 2011.

Perry, 25, is engaged to British comic Russell Brand, 34, and is best known for hits such as I Kissed A Girl and Hot and Cold. She told Nylon magazine: "The biggest conception [of me] is that it's someone else's idea, or that I'm just a vessel. Some people don't think I'm the captain of my ship."

Perry revealed she has been listening to older music for inspiration for her second album.
She said: "I've been on a '90s kick for a little bit. I've been listening to Hole, who are coming back... The Cardigans, Ace of Base. "The new music is still fun, but it's a bit darker. It's not as annoying. If you do something over and over again, it's like Chinese water torture."

"So she asked his friends if he'd like a Bentley and they all said yes."

However, 34-year-old Russell knows nothing about the plan and thinks they will not be buying gifts for each other.

On the cat-fight between the two women, American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi has denied that she was upset with Katy Perry after her recent appearance on the show. DioGuardi, 39, said that she was just joking with Perry, 25, when she said she would throw a drink over her for singing her single I Kissed A Girl.  
DioGuardi said: "People actually think that I was upset by this - like there was tension. "I think that it's really good that she disagreed with me. I think that it's important that people have different opinions or else who wants to watch the show? It'd be boring."

Pop star and American idol guest judge Katy Perry did her best at being a catty talent show judge and matched wits with Kara Dioguardi during the auditions for season nine in Los Angeles.

The show airs each week on fox and during the auditions on the west coast, the two female judges clashed.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "Russell and Katy had a wander around Hampstead. They visited children's shoe shop Cubs and had a lot of fun checking out all the little bootees.

"They then went to Cafe Rouge for a bit of lunch. Katy ordered scrambled eggs and asked for the eggs to be 'well done'. And when Russell asked for a portion of chips she loudly announced to the waiter, 'Hold the mayo'."

Pregnant women are not allowed to eat freshly made mayonnaise because the recipe contains uncooked eggs, which are considered a health risk to unborn babies.

Russell is also said to have given the 'Hot n Cold' singer a large, square-cut diamond ring, set in a platinum band from upmarket jeweller Cartier.
