Andy Tennant Directing Adaline

A couple of months ago, it was announced that Katherine Heigl had discovered the secret to immortality, and it wasn’t keeping a creepy painting in her attic at home. Nope, it was drinking the blood of goats and sacrificing garden gnomes to the great god underneath her local IKEA. Wait, not that either. It was starring in the fantasy romance The Age of Adaline. Well, now it’s just called Adaline and it has a director in Andy Tennant.

Written by J Mills Goodloe and Sal Pascowitz, with recent polishing by Feast of Love’s Allison Burnett, Adaline is the story of a beautiful woman who appears young, but has actually been around a fair bit longer than her fresh-faced looks might indicate. Following a mysterious accident, she’s been gifted, or, as some would see it, cursed with never aging.

But when she meets a man who may risk his life to help her regain her mortality, she decides that it’s time to rejoin the rest of humanity on the path to wrinkles, bad joints and, eventually, death. We’re sure they’ll focus on the more charming aspects of the story.

Tennant joining the film seems like a mixed blessing – he’s been responsible for some distinctly average rom-com fare recently, including last year’s Jennifer Aniston/Gerard Butler wannabe screwball pic The Bounty Hunter, along with Fool’s Gold and Sweet Home Alabama. Hitch was better, but nothing amazing. Perhaps a slight shift in genre will give him more to work with.

We’ll have to wait a while to see, though, as the film won’t start shooting until early next year.

Jennifer Aniston Enjoys Date With Hunk - New Man?

Jennifer Aniston has been spotted on a date with a Hollywood hunk. The star has been linked to several men, including Gerard Butler, since splitting from singer John Mayer last year. She has always maintained she is single, but was seen enjoying a romantic dinner with actor Christopher Gartin last Thursday.

Christopher reportedly arrived at Jennifer’s home at 7pm in his black Audi, and then drove her to the Sunset Tower Hotel and Restaurant in Los Angeles. The couple spent two hours deep in conversation at a secluded outside table, which overlooked the swimming pool.
As they chatted and flirted, the pair sipped rosé champagne and each tucked into a salad. They then ordered a single Tower burger, which they shared.
“She was bubbly in demeanor, seeming to be rather enthusiastic about something,” a source told the American edition of OK! magazine. “They were talking about swimming pools and the pros and cons of chlorination or the new salt-water saline pools.”
When the time came to leave, Jennifer told her security team she was heading home but got into Christopher’s vehicle.

Gerard Butler Up For A Star Is Born?

The long, long, long gestating new version of A Star Is Born appears to be dragging another male name into its casting gravity as Warners is looking once more at potential leads and is pondering Gerard Butler.

According to the LA Times, he’s only one name on a lengthy list of possibilities, but given his ability to make some distinctly whiffy movies earn decent box office thanks to his manly charms (cough The Bounty Hunter cough), he’s apparently a front-runner.

A Star Is Born is almost the Doctor Who of behind-the-scenes drama films – it changes a little with each variation, focusing on either a washed up singer coaching a young newcomer into the business or an older movie star helping a showgirl with her first steps on stage. Either way, friendship and romance blossom, but the male side of the story struggles with alcoholism and other demons.

The likes of James Mason and Kris Kristofferson have played the role before to great acclaim and most recently it was thought that Russell Crowe would be the man to help Beyonce with her career. But with no offer in sight, Crowe remains more rumour than real possibility. And while Warners refuses to count him out (he’s still a bigger star than the likes of Butler), the studio is trying to get the thing made sometime this century.

Nick Cassavetes is still attached to direct.

On The Set In Serbia With A Bloody Ralph Fiennes

Dressed in military fatigues and with their faces covered in blood, Ralph Fiennes and Gerard Butler are at each others' necks, fighting on the ground atop broken glass and debris, trying to kill each other.

Still breathing heavily after an intense scene with one of Hollywood's fastest rising stars, Fiennes makes his way to a monitor to check out the latest bit of his directorial debut of one of Shakespeare's lesser-known tragedies "Coriolanus."

"We have botched beginnings all the way from my point of view," an irritated Fiennes said after watching a replay of the scene. "This is the kind of thing, I beg you to call out or say something."

"I think we need to do the explosion again," he said, referring to a blast which billows smoke across a play set in modern-day times and filmed around Belgrade in a gritty hand-held camera style.

Twice nominated for Academy Awards -- as a Nazi camp commander in "Schindler's List" and for the title role in "The English Patient" -- Fiennes is bringing the same intensity that characterizes his acting to the director's chair.

"I am under a lot of pressure, so there isn't time to be -- particularly today as we are coming to the end -- there isn't time sometimes to be always perhaps as tactful as you would like to be," Fiennes said during a later interview.

In the film Fiennes plays the leading role of Coriolanus, a general who eventually betrays his native Rome and joins forces with the city's enemy, Aufidius, played by Butler, star of the film "300."

Just days before wrapping up filming this week, Fiennes was directing a fierce knife fight with Butler in a scene taking place before their two characters later join forces.

After another take, an apprehensive Fiennes returns to the monitor, joined by Butler, who is out of breath and silent as he wipes his brow.

"Please tell me there is something in that," Fiennes said.

His stern continence -- all the more frightful under the bloody makeup and patches of broken glass on the face of an actor who has scared many as Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter movies -- eases.

"The sun is perfect there," Fiennes said, finally flashing a smile as he assesses the take. "It's great."

GRITTY MODERN REALISM

The bitter hand-to-hand battle leaves both characters badly wounded, waiting for allies to help them away from the scene.

After a few takes, Fiennes is still not satisfied with Butler's reanimation at a massive Belgrade Communist-era hotel in reality still in disrepair after the 1999 Kosovo war bombing.

"I don't know what to do," Butler says. "I've got to be dead for a second and then come to?"

Fiennes tells him exactly how to reach for a nearby knife and then calls for more smoke to add modern-day realism in the abridged version of Shakespeare's play.

"Every single second of this film, he knows what he wants," said Serbian actor Dragan Micanovic, whose character helps drag Fiennes away at the end of the fighting. "Yeah, he shouts, but when everything is out of order."

In his trailer later when the faux blood has been cleared off his face, Fiennes says the emotion of working as a director helps his performance in the lead role.

"I use my frustration and my adrenaline as a director, I channel it into Coriolanus. When I am getting frustrated and sometimes cross about the situation, I use that," he said.

"As an actor I don't sit around on the set always in the state of emotion the character is in. I wait until the camera is ready and then offer up whatever the character is meant to be doing."

With a supporting cast of veteran actors including Vanessa Redgrave and Brian Cox, Fiennes is bluntly honest when asked whether he is making a great film.

"I have no clue. How could I possibly know at this point?" he said. "I have a whole massive range of (film) rushes, some of which I like, some of which I question, but I don't know."

"There are days when I think I have got something I am happy with and there are days when I feel I might have missed it and come away disappointed."

Adds Gabrielle Tana, one of the film's producers: "We have a benevolent ruler, but the focus is intense."

"He's his own toughest critic."

Michelle Monaghan has joined the fact-based drama Machine Gun Preacher, which Marc Forster is gearing up to direct.

Revolutionary Road's Michael Shannon is also negotiating to take a role, that of Childers’ friend, who helped his wife (Monaghan) work out her own problems while her hubby was locked in prison or out saving lives in Africa.

Cheeky Gerard Butler has tried to deny grabbing Jennifer Aniston's backside despite seemingly being caught red-handed.  The hunky Scot was snapped from the back with his hand apparently on co-star Jennifer's shapely behind giving the Hollywood starlet a squeeze as they promoted their movie "The Bounty Hunter" in Paris.

But he admitted he is “a bit of a bad boy” in an interview with US radio show Johnjay and Rich.  Gerard said: “I’m still not sure my hand was on her butt. I think that’s just the way the camera was angled.  “I haven’t actually seen it.”

The star giggled as one of the hosts told him: “It looked implanted in the crease! It looks like you’re bowling!”  Gerard maintained he is not dating Jennifer despite relentless rumors.  He said: “It’s been two years now of people saying, ‘Are you guys a couple'?
“I don’t think it would make any sense to keep denying it for two years.
“If I was going out with Jennifer I would be more than happy to say I was going out with Jennifer."

Sexy Hollywood actress Jennifer Aniston (pictured) is talking family again - at the same time as she is shooting down rumors that she is dating her Bounty Hunter co-star Gerard Butler.

The couple star together as a divorced couple in the new romantic comedy and have been linked together off screen, too. But while Aniston insists they are just friends, she is taking time to reveal that she is ready to settle down and have kids.

She told UK Star magazine: "I've had some wonderful experiences. I hope I've reached a point where I'm ready to enjoy being with a great man and having a family together. "That's always been my dream."
Jennifer has dated several high-profile stars since she split from her ex-husband Brad Pitt in 2005, including John Mayer, Vince Vaughn and Paul Sculfor but has always said she wanted to have kids.

She added: "We're all a lot more complicated. We've also become more wary and more demanding, maybe."
"Men and women are developing higher expectations and sometimes that creates too much pressure because your partner is not always going to be everything you want."

Gerard Butler thinks Jennifer Aniston has the "best legs" in Hollywood.

The actor - who has denied repeated speculation he is dating his 'Bounty Hunter' co-star - was full of praise for the actress at the film's New York premiere last night (16.03.10) and thinks her pins are perfect.

He said: "She's vivacious. I mean, she's just so alive inside, and that really shows through.

"And Jen actually does have the best legs in Hollywood!"
