More film notes...Prince Of Persia star Gemma Arterton has admitted she told the movie's director that she wasn't right for the part when she landed the role. Arterton, 24, takes on the role of Princess Tamina in the new Disney flick opposite Jake Gyllenhaal.
The actress admitted that she didn't think the film's director Mike Newell should have picked her for the part.

She said to UK's In Style magazine: "When I went to the audition for Prince Of Persia, I remember thinking: 'Disney princess? You're having a laugh!' So I went in being all cheeky chappy, not taking it seriously - and I think that actually worked in my favor."
She added: "But I had this big problem with it. Like: 'Why haven't you got Natalie Portman to play this part? Or Megan Fox or Freida Pinto? Why aren't you getting these girls?' "I actually said this to Mike. It took me so long to get over the fact that I was the totty in this movie. And, yes, I was in make-up for three hours a day. That's what it took! I had hair extensions, I had fake tan, I was in the gym..."

Slumdog Millionaire’s Freida Pinto has signed on to star in War Of The Gods for Tarsem Singh and Relativity Media.

With Percy Jackson and Clash Of The Titans hitting cinemas, 2010 truly is the year of the Greek deities. Gods – which started developing around the same time as Titans – is being bankrolled by Universal, who must be hoping that the interest in all things mythological will survive this year’s onslaught.

Henry Cavill is already on board as Theseus, who must lead his men into battle against the ancient, immortal Greek gods to destroy evil and defeat the Titans so mankind can be saved. Pinto will lay Phaedra, an oracle priestess who joins our hero on his quest.

Tarsem starts shooting in April. Expect him to be asked about 3D by a nervous studio exec approximately one minute after stepping on to set.

Mariah Carey will receive the Breakthrough Performance Award at the 21st Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival.

The singer-and-actress will receive the coveted honour at the Californian event in January in recognition for her portrayal of a dowdy social worker in 'Precious'.

Festival chairman Harold Matzner said: "We're delighted to be able to present the Breakthrough Performance Award to the extraordinary, very beautiful and versatile Mariah Carey, who, in a critically acclaimed role, completely transformed herself from a glamorous music icon to a forthright social worker for the role of Ms. Weiss in Precious."

Previous winners of the prize include Jennifer Hudson, Marion Cotillard and Freida Pinto, who all went on to win an Oscar for their performances.

Meanwhile, it has been claimed Mariah insisted on bringing her own toilet paper to a TV appearance.

The 'I Want To Know What Love Is' singer amazed presenters of UK TV show 'GMTV' with her diva-like antics, which also included being lowered onto a sofa by two people, with more members of her entourage being placed in the studio to check camera angles.

'GMTV' host Kate Garraway revealed in her column in New! Magazine: "I've heard a lot of rumours about Mariah being a diva over the years and it turns out it's all true!

"While Mariah was very nice, the amount of people she had in her entourage was hilarious. They outnumbered the entire 'GMTV' crew! She had two people to lower her on to the sofa, in case her dress got crushed, one person to walk in front of her backwards at all times in case she fell over and several people behind the camera making sure she was going to be filmed from the right angle.

British actress Kate Winslet lead the pack of People magazine's 10 best-dressed women of 2009, with U.S. first lady Michelle Obama chosen for "best accessible glamour."

Although the list, released Wednesday, does not have numerical ranking, Winslet, 33, who won an Oscar in February for playing a dour Nazi in "The Reader," was deemed to be the best-dressed woman on the red carpet on 2009 "with her unique brand of sexy sophistication, modern Hollywood glamour and those enviable curves."

People named Reese Witherspoon as having the "best short dresses," "High School Musical" actress Vanessa Hudgens as best hippie chic, and Freida Pinto, the Indian star of Oscar-winning movie "Slumdog Millionaire," for having the best use of color.

Brad Pitt, "Twilight" actor Robert Pattinson, and Bradley Cooper of "The Hangover" and "Nip/Tuck" fame were among the best-dressed men of the year. People said their attention to details like a scarf, pin or skinny tie "took their looks beyond basic."

Teen country singer Taylor Swift was dubbed "best sparkle."

The annual best- and worst-dressed double issue, on newsstands Friday, also acknowledged the impact on fashion of the Emmy-award winning TV series "Mad Men," set in the 1960s, whose cigarette pants and sheath dresses have inspired new designs by Michael Kors and Tory Burch.

The People magazine special issue also looked at some of the fashion flops of 2009. Former "American Idol" judge Paula Abdul and actress Renee Zellweger were cited as having the worst red carpet dresses.

Singer Jessica Simpson's January appearance in unflattering high-waisted "mom jeans," which triggering a heated debate about weight issues in Hollywood, was among the "most memorable moments of the year," People said.
