Sex and the City star Cynthia Nixon is reportedly joining The Big C. It is claimed that Nixon, 44, will guest star in four episodes of the Showtime program.  According to TV Guide.com, she will be taking on the role of Rebecca, a former college roommate of Cathy, played by Laura Linney, whose life is turned upside-down by her arrival.

The show is centered around schoolteacher Cathy, who tries to reclaim her life when she is diagnosed with cancer.

More Showtime notes...Nurse Jackie star Edie Falco is so unrecognizable in a new theater role that one patron asked for his money back. The fan insisted that he deserved a refund because the actress hadn't played the lead in This Wide Night - only to be told that it really was her on stage.
A source told a US newspaper: "He walked out 30 minutes into the 85-minute show and demanded his money back. He complained that she 'apparently wasn't performing that day' because he hadn't yet seen her."
Falco, 46, stars as former jailbird Lorraine in the off-Broadway play. Only she and Alison Pill appear in the show.   The man failed in his bid to get a refund, according to a US report.

"Sex And The City's" Cynthia Nixon Lives Her Own New York

She is best known for her role as one of New York's stylish single girls prowling for men, but in reality "Sex and the City" actress Cynthia Nixon's world is all about family life with her female partner and a lifestyle removed from the city's glamour.

Nixon, a rising gay rights activist, returns as Miranda in the "Sex and the City 2" movie which opens on Thursday. She reprises her character from the long-running television show, a self-deprecating workaholic lawyer in a foursome of women friends who bond over nightlife, fashion and pursuit of men.

The real-life Nixon, 44, is more likely found in her New York neighborhood, clad in yoga pants with a child in tow, a far cry from "Sex and the City's" glitter.

"That's hard for me sometimes because I feel like it's not my New York," Nixon said, adding that she hopes women take away a message of "look your best, not necessarily to catch a man, but because of the way it makes you feel. Use it as a form of self expression."

The sequel has Miranda married with a child, struggling to break through a glass ceiling in the workplace and sharing experiences of motherhood.

In real life, Nixon plans to marry Christine Marinoni with whom she is raising two children that she had with a former partner, a man. A breast cancer survivor, Nixon serves as a spokeswoman for cancer research and works in support of New York's public schools.

Her openness about her gay relationship has not jeopardized the roles she has been offered since the hit "Sex and the City" television series ended six years ago, she said.

"A lot of people know that I am with a woman, but I feel like that is not the front and center perception they have of me. The front and center perception they have of me is 'Sex and the City,'" she said.

"I am much more likely to be offered a corporate lawyer than I am to be offered a lesbian of whatever ilk."

'NOT A SPRING CHICKEN'

Hollywood used to be hostile to publicly gay actors for fear it might put off audiences. But Nixon, who is among a new crop of entertainers who openly talk of dating the same sex, say such fears are groundless today.

"There have been gay actors playing straight characters ... as long as there has been Hollywood," said Nixon, who has been lending her voice in support of gay marriage since making headlines in 2004 when she began dating Marinoni.

"I don't feel like actors should have to pretend that they are something they are not in order to be believable," she said.

Age may play a bigger part in the roles she lands, she joked, adding: "I am not a spring chicken, I am not going to get cast as like the 25-year-old girl in the movie opposite, whoever, Jake Gyllenhaal."

Nixon, a native New Yorker who first appeared on television at age 12, has won Emmy, Grammy and Tony awards for her work.

She would like most to be known for a life of acting that extends well past the "Sex and the City" juggernaut.

"Laurence Olivier said the best thing for a young actor to learn is how to become an old actor, and that's what I want," she said.

"One of these days 'Sex and the City' is going to be gone, but I am still going to be here," she said.

"Sex and the City 2" is distributed by Warner Bros, a unit of Time Warner Inc..

Sarah Jessica Parker was so nervous about her red carpet dress for the world premiere of 'Sex and the City 2' she could barely sleep.

The actress - who wore a neon yellow Valentino gown to the New York premiere of the movie at Radio City Music Hall last night (24.05.10) - admitted the pressure to look as stylish as her character Carrie Bradshaw was so huge she had been biting her nails and struggled to get some rest.

She said: "This movie took a long time to make. I cared about being presentable to that degree. I never want to embarrass my children or my family. It's always lovely to get to borrow a beautiful dress. I didn't sleep at all last night. I'm still so nervous. Look at my cuticles!"

Her co-star Cynthia Nixon - who portrays Miranda Hobbes in the film which sees the four friends travel from New York to the sand dunes of Abu Dhabi on an all-expenses paid trip - revealed she is unlike her fashionable character and prefers comfortable flat shoes to high heels.

Kim Cattrall can't believe how many 'Sex and the City 2' posters she has seen.

The actress - who portrays man-eating businesswoman Samantha Jones in the TV series and films - is still shocked by the popularity of the franchise and finds it odd when she see pictures of herself plastered near her home in New York City.

She said: "It's very difficult because I'm so inside of it, I struggle to have any objectivity. But when I arrived home - I've been in London doing a play for five months - there were posters everywhere I looked!"

The 53-year-old actress believes 'Sex and the City' has been such a success because the four main characters - who are portrayed by Kim, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon - are relatable to everyone.

Sarah Jessica Parker and her 'Sex and the City 2' co-stars all slept together when they filmed the movie in Morocco.

The actress has revealed she, Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis got very close while making the second film in the North African country and even got into bed with one another.

Sarah Jessica - who plays Carrie Bradshaw in the phenomenally successful franchise - said in an interview with The Sun newspaper: "Being away for that long made our bond even closer and I think you can see that on screen. We lived together, ate every single meal together, stayed in one dressing room together - we sometimes slept in the same bed together."

The 45-year-old star admits it was difficult being away from her husband Matthew Broderick, seven-year-old son James Wilkie and twins Marion and Tabitha - who were born last year via a surrogate mother.

Cynthia Nixon thinks living in New York made it easier for her to speak about her sexuality.

The 'Sex and the City' actress - who has children Samantha, 14, and Charles, seven, with ex-partner Danny Mozer - says the cosmopolitan city is more accepting of her same-sex relationship with Christine Marinoni.

She said: "Living in New York made it easier to come out. I'm sure it was strange for my daughter, but we have so many gay people in our lives - her uncle is gay, her godmothers are gay. It would be different if we lived somewhere else."

The actress thinks the "richness" and "energy" of the city make it a perfect place to bring up her children.

Cynthia Nixon loves her partner's "butchness".

The 'Sex and the City 2' actress - who has been dating Christine Marinoni since January 2004 - admits her partner is masculine but jokes those who know them believe the flame-haired star is the "butch" one in the relationship.

She said: "She's basically a short man with boobs. A lot of what I love about her is her butchness. I'm not saying I fell in love with her in a sexually neutral way. I love her sexuality - it's a big part of what I love about her - but I feel like it was her.

"It wasn't something in me that was waiting to come out. It was like, this person is undeniable. How can I let this person walk by? Christine would probably kill me for saying this, but my daughter said one time that if you really had to break this down, it looks like she would be butch and I would be femme... but really once you get to know us it's really the opposite."

Kristin Davis has never been asked to lose weight by her 'Sex and the City' bosses.

The 45-year-old actress - who plays Charlotte York Goldenblatt in the films and TV series - is happy with her figure and insists she and her co-stars, Kim Cattrall, Sarah Jessica Parker and Cynthia Nixon, have never been pressurised to look a certain way.

She said: "You get a lot of criticism out in the world or on the internet about how you look. 'Fat here, fat there. Hippy this, hippy that.' That has been my entire career.

"But never at work. No one at 'Sex and the City' has ever asked any of us four girls to lose weight. Thank God."

Kristin is also very grateful to 'Sex and the City' for giving her an incredible career.

Noisy Eater Cynthia Nixon

Cynthia Nixon is a noisy eater.

'Sex and the City' creator Michael Patrick King banned the actress - who plays Miranda Hobbs in the TV series and subsequent films - from eating during shooting because she drowns out dialogue from the other members of the cast.

He said: "The fact is, there's only one thing I avoided having Cynthia do on all the years of 'Sex and the City', and that was to eat on camera.

"I discovered early in the first season when I wrote that Miranda eats in a coffee shop, Cynthia would eat in the coffee shop. I mean, chew and bite with gusto.

"There were times you couldn't even hear the other girls' lines. And it totally creeped me out; it was like, 'Why is she doing that? How do I get around it?'

"In editing, I'd be saying, 'Is there a cut with her where you don't see the steak in her mouth?' Is there a different take?' "

The cast - including Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall and Kristin Davis - are allowed to choose their own food for restaurant scenes and Cynthia astonished producers with her less-than-healthy selections.

Speaking at the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) Media Awards in New York at the weekend - where openly homosexual Cynthia was honoured with the Vito Russo Award - Michael added: "Seriously, all the girls would get to pick what they wanted in the coffee shop scenes, and Kristin and SJ would pick salads, and Kim would pick blueberries, and Cynthia, I'd look over and she'd be eating a cheeseburger.

"Like, eight cheeseburgers because you'd have to keep going and going and going again. And every time a new one arrived, she was even more delighted than the last."

Sex and the City star Cynthia Nixon (pictured) has taken one of the top honors at the 21st Annual GLAAD Media Awards. The actress, along with The View co-host Joy Behar, was honored at the 2010 award ceremony in New York.

At the ceremony, Sex and the City creator Michael Patrick King presented the Vito Russo Award to Nixon, whose openness about her family has led to a greater understanding of the need for full marriage equality.
The award is presented to an openly lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender media professional who has made a significant difference in promoting equal rights for the LGBT community.

Accepting the award, Nixon said: "Coming out wasn't hard in 2004. But if it had been 1994? What would I have done? I'll never know. Only 10 years’ difference and a whole different universe. Coming out wasn't difficult for me because of the work of many people in this room and because of the vision, tenacity and sacrifice of people like Vito Russo, who are no longer with us but because of whom there is a room - a room that has all of us in it."
Also at the event, journalist Meredith Vieira presented the Excellence in Media Award to Behar, who has shown a strong commitment to educating the public about the lives of gay and transgender people on her HLN talk show, The Joy Behar Show, and as co-host of The View.
