No, that’s not a typing error in the headline: Andrew Niccol really is calling his next sci-fi pic I’m.mortal. But while the spelling is about as silly as those movies that love to shove numbers into the title, the casting is proceeding ahead, with Amanda Seyfried locking into to one of the lead roles.
The typically twisty plot for the film focuses on a world where aging is halted at 25, which will mean a bonanza for performers in their mid ‘20s, because, as Variety reports, all the roles in the film will be aimed at that age group.
But there’s a catch, of course. It’s the wealthy who get all the advantages, and while they’re immortal, the rest of humanity struggles to stay alive in a society where time is now the most vital currency.
A rebel from – where else? – the wrong side of the tracks is accused of murdering a wealthy man for his time, and soon finds himself on the run from the authorities with a beautiful hostage (Seyfried) in tow. The pair slowly fall for each other, realising (sick bucket alert) that love has more power than all the time in the world…
Niccol, who scripted The Truman Show and wrote/directed the likes of Gattaca and S1m0ne, will get to making the movie later this year with 20th Century Fox signing up to distribute it.

Chalk another one up to Catherine Hardwicke’s new take on the Little Red Riding Hood fairytale: Virginia Madsen has joined the cast.
The medieval-set Red Riding Hood brings some new elements to the story, with Amanda Seyfried as the titular heroine, a girl who flaunts her family’s wishes by falling for a lowly, yet hunky woodcutter (Shiloh Fernandez). Trouble is, her folks want her to wed the local blacksmith (Max Irons).
And then there’s the very small problem of the werewolf picking off villagers in the area, with Witchfinder General (Gary Oldman) aiming to take the beast down. Grandma in this version will be Julie Christie, a lady who might know more than she’s letting on about the hairy howler, given that she knits with silver needles.
Madsen, meanwhile, is taking the role of Seyfried’s mother, the woman who is trying to convince her wayward daughter to stick to the family plan and also to stay out of the woods. Which might seem like pushy parenting, but with a drooling lycanthrope haunting the forest, we sort of see her point.
Shooting on the movie is already underway in Vancouver, and Warner Bros. plans this one for release early next year.

Amanda Seyfried believes in destiny.
The actress - who is currently taking a break from her relationship with Dominic Cooper - met the actor on the set of their movie 'Mamma Mia!' while he was still in a relationship and claims she has always believed that love happens in the most unexpected times and circumstances.
She said: "Love knows no boundaries. There's not a time or place for it - it can come at the wrong time or the right time, it can end and start again. I think if you really love somebody you'll do anything to make it work. And if it doesn't work then you stop pushing and it'll come back. That's what my mom always says. Everything happens for a reason, if it's meant to be it's meant to be."
"I don't think everything's written in stone but some things can't be explained. When it comes to love, you know, if you feel something go with it. You can't deny how you feel about anything. That's the truth of it."

Amanda Seyfried was "desperate" for Dominic Cooper to fall in love with her.
The 'Mamma Mia!' actress has denied rumours she and her co-star have split up, but admits her feelings for the British hunk have always been much stronger than his are for her.
She said: "I waited around. I was pretty desperate for a while. It was about three years ago, and the desperation lasted for 18 months. I waited and waited while he figured his s**t out. It was meant to be, it was meant to happen, and I was meant to wait for him. At the time it's hard and you don't know if what you're doing is right or wrong; that'll come out later in life.
"If I have strong feelings for someone, I'm going to tell them immediately and they can do what they want with it. Thankfully, it's usually been mutual in my life, but this relationship wasn't mutual for a while."

Amanda Seyfried and Dominic Cooper are "taking a break" from their relationship.
The actress - who has been dating her 'Mamma Mia!' co-star since they first started working together on the movie in 2008 - has reportedly decided to have some time apart from her British lover while they both work out what they want.
A source told People.com: "Amanda and Dominic have been on and off for a while - and right now they're taking a break. But they're great friends and could still get back together."
Despite months of speculation about the stability of their romance, the 24-year-old beauty and the 'An Education' actor are still in constant contact as they try and work through their problems.
Another source said : "They still talk all the time and are trying to work things out. There is no drama. They are just on a break."

Amanda Seyfried puts her career before love.
The 24-year-old star - who has been dating the British actor Dominic Cooper since they met on the set of 'Mamma Mia!' in 2008 - admitted she would put her career in Hollywood before any man in her life.
Speaking of her role in the movie 'Letters to Juliet' she said: "My character was very motivated by her job and not by her love life, which is kind of normal for a girl her age. I know it is for me. Sometimes I focus less on my relationship and more on my career."
The actress also claimed that being in a relationship can become "very warped" when you're so in love with somebody.

Amanda Seyfried was "put to shame" by Vanessa Redgrave.
The 24-year-old star - who stars alongside the veteran British actress in 'Letters to Juliet' - spent her free time from filming in Italy playing tennis with the 73-year-old screen legend, and admits her own prowess on the court was less than impressive.
She said: "She is the most open woman on this planet. She gives everything in a scene.
"She's the number one best communicator and she's so connected. She also looks amazing.
"We would play tennis in the mornings when we weren't shooting, and this woman can move. She puts me to shame."

Amanda Seyfried used to think sex was "dirty and disgusting".
The 24-year-old actress - who plays a manipulative temptress in 'Chloe', where she shares a number of lesbian sex scenes alongside actress Julianne Moore - claims she used to be terrified of any kind of intimacy because of the "narrow-minded" town she grew up in.
She told The Sunday Telegraph's Stella magazine: "We have to be open-minded. I'm not saying American's are narrow-minded - I've lived in New York and Los Angeles - but where I grew up in Allentown, Pennsylvania. there was a small-town mindset that made me feel that sex was wrong.
"When my sister lost her virginity, I thought that was dirty and disgusting, and I was scared of sex. I remember I had a fight with my friend when I touched a boy for the first time and I didn't tell her. She got mad with me, not because I didn't tell her, but because I'd done it in the first place. We already knew that Amanda Seyfried was set to star in Catherine Hardwicke's Gothic horror/fairytale The Girl With The Red Riding Hood, but now a whole heap of supporting cast members have trickled in to join the movie. Following the announcement earlier this week that Shiloh Fernandez is set to play a woodcutter with whom Red falls in love, today it's been revealed that Max Irons is joining the cast and that Julie Christie and Gary Oldman are in talks to follow him.
Irons (who's the son of Jeremy, but not the son who appeared with him in Danny, Champion of the World) will play the village blacksmith who's due to marry Red as the result of an arrangement between their families. Christie will play a rather more beautiful and less doddery grandmother than we've previously seen in this tale - and a grandmother who knits with silver needles, which might come in handy given that there's a werewolf on the loose. And Oldman will be the "Witchfinder General" who must seek out and kill the lycanthrope. Only we're guessing that it won't be quite that simple.
Shooting starts in Vancouver pretty soon, so keep an eye out for this one sometime next year. Can Hardwicke make it as popular as Twilight? Well, the cast is pretty enough - and what else does she need?

Catherine Hardwicke has found the male lead to star alongside Amanda Seyfried in Girl With The Red Riding Hood: Shiloh Fernandez.
The Heat Vision blog Reports that Fernandez, who has had small roles in the likes of Cadillac Records and Deadgirl, but has worked more solidly on US TV, was won the part of Peter, an orphaned woodcutter who Seyfried’s heroine falls for even as her medieval village is terrorised by a werewolf.
It’s a chance for Hardwicke to give the actor a bigger break at last, since he originally met with her when he tested for the role of Edward on Twilight. He was also up for the starring turn in Speed Racer, though he’s probably glad that Emile Hirsch got that one.
Hardwicke is gearing up to shoot the film in Vancouver this spring.
