Jon Voight says he was happy to spend time with his once-estranged daughter, actress Angelina Jolie, her partner Brad Pitt and their six kids in Venice.

The family reunited last weekend in the Italian city where Jolie is shooting her movie "The Tourist."

Voight and Jolie have had a rocky relationship since 2001, but reportedly reconciled last fall. They have not been seen together in public for several years, however.

They were photographed Sunday enjoying a boat ride down the Grand Canal.

"It's nice to have something that's positive!" Voight told UsMagazine.com. "(The boat ride was) lovely ... the weather wasn't so bad for the journey. It's a very beautiful trip. A lot of fun."

He added that he hopes to see his daughter and her brood again soon.

"I love the possibility of spending time with the family. It's a very beautiful thing," the actor said.
